Information We Collect

Comments

When visitors leave comments we collect the data shown in the comment form, plus IP address and browser user agent for spam detection.
An anonymized hash of your email may be sent to Gravatar to check if you use it (see Automattic Privacy). Approved profile pictures are visible with your comment.

Media

Avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as visitors can download and extract this data.

Cookies

  • If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies for one year.
  • Temporary cookies confirm your browser accepts cookies.
  • Login cookies last two days (or two weeks with “Remember Me”); screen-option cookies last one year.
  • An extra cookie stores the post ID when you edit or publish an article (expires after one day).
    You can clear or block cookies anytime in your browser.

Embedded content

Articles may include embedded content (e.g., YouTube videos, images). These sites may collect data, use cookies, and track your interaction as if you visited their site directly.

Plugins & Services

Complianz

We use the Privacy Suite for WordPress by Complianz to collect and record browser/device consent. Your IP is anonymized and stored for this purpose. No personally identifiable information is processed. See the Complianz Privacy Statement.

Smush

Images are sent to WPMU DEV servers for optimization; EXIF data may be stripped or returned but not stored. Smush uses the StackPath CDN, which may log visitor IPs, user agent, referrer, location, and ISP info for 7 days.

Smush may also use Drip to email the site admin (admin email only).

LiteSpeed Cache

This site uses caching to improve speed. Temporary cache files may duplicate displayed pages and are never accessed by third parties except for plugin support. Cache may be processed via QUIC.cloud.

Akismet Anti-Spam

When visitors leave comments, Akismet collects IP address, user agent, referrer, site URL, and any information provided in the comment form to detect spam.

Mailing List (Kit)

If you sign up for travel updates, your email and name are processed by ConvertKit. You can unsubscribe anytime.

Data Sharing

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

Data Retention

  • Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely for follow-up approval.
  • Registered users (if any) can view, edit, or delete their personal data anytime (username can’t be changed). Admins can also view/edit.

Depending on your location, you may:

  • Request an exported file of your personal data.
